Even though I never met the man in person, I consider Bobbe Seymour my primary steel guitar teacher. His instructional videos are the best and funnest, IMHO. He shows some theory and technique, then says "Don't forget to throw in some flair like this- whip wheew. You're putting on a show!" That's not a direct quote. I am bummed that his tracks and videos can't be found by me. I wish I could get a copy of his "As Time Goes By" tracks CD. Bobbe encouraged me greatly on C6, and I recommend his utube videos.

It was a revelation to me the day I walked into Bobbe's shop and started to fool around with a single note version of Sweet Georgia Brown on a Fender triple (I later bought from him). Bobby listened, then sat down at that old Fender and played it in Merle Travis style. My jaw was on the floor. But even more than that thumb style, I loved his feel and approach on standards like Misty and Tenderly. He was a unique presence in the steel world and greatly missed.

I first heard Bobbe's live Travis picking back in 1981 at the St. Louis convention and it was mind blowing. He also played his speedpicking runs with delay, ala Albert Lee, and that was amazing too. The following year I heard him at a club in Nashville. In the 1990s Bobbe was featured at one of the MassBash shows and I spent most of the day with him, drove him to the show, and got to know him a bit. He had a lot of great stories and excellent inside gossip about everything and everybody in the music biz. What an amazing guy!
