C6th Followup: How Do You Use 4th String Lower?

It seems that most C6th players lower their 4th string A a half step. (See poll at http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=300610). I don't have that lever and I'm thinking about adding it. My questions for those who have it: what are your most common uses of it? Also, do you split with P7 to get a 9th chord?

About half of the poll respondents lower string 8 on the same lever. What are the pros and cons of that? It seems to me that the 8th string lower would actually be more useful, as you don't have to avoid a G note right below it.

Bob, see my post on the other thread about what chords This gives you, and yes on my Emmons I split to get the dominant ninth. Usually I grab the first string D with fourth string Bb.

And p7 with the lower split gives a nice Fm on the 10th fret. Cmaj on the 4th fret with p6 and both Abs with root on string 8.
