What are the current tunings for the RKR and RKL. I have RKR 2nd string D# to D then to C# and the 9th string D to C#; RKL 6th string G# to G. Is this correct?

Bob, my RKL, lowers 9 a whole, lowers 6 a whole, raises 2 a half and 1 a whole.
My RLR, lowers 9 a half, raises 7 a whole, and a half & whole lower on the 2nd...
Sometimes I “Untune†the 6th lower cause it gets in the way of other things I’m trying,
I love the 7th raising a whole along with AB pedals down... whatever
chord that is, it sounds cool to me.

That is very common for the RKR.
For the RKL, most lower the 6th string to F# and if its an all pull "split" with the B pedal to get the G.
Also on the same knee with the 6 lower many have the 1st string F# to G# and the 2nd Eb to E raise. That is the stock setup for the GFI's, was the stock setup for Carter. |

Bob, Lever placement is a matter of personal preference... But, I would say that your RKR IS the way most players have it... But, your RKL is not a very common change.
Luckily, if you have YOUR RKR, and levers to both raise and lower the E's a half step... Then the fourth lever is just a bonus. You will get several various opinions about what is best there. But, I think the 5th string B-Bb will be the most common choice for a "fourth" lever. |

Thank all of you for the information. I now understand that the tunings for certain levers can vary somewhat; like the RKR and RKL that I have. It seems that my RKL is different from most but, I like it and use it for Minors; it's the way I learned it. I have most of the rest with the other levers and also have a tandem LKL for the 1 & 7 F# to G#.
The Pedal Steel is about endless in how it works and I have sometimes accidently come upon sounds with the levers/pedals that sound really nice. I'm sure none of you have ever done that....Ha....Ha....

I'd retune your 6th string drop from G to F#.
You have better minors with the A pedal (C#m at the nut l) or with the E lowers (G#m at the nut)
