Topic: Looking For "cry Steel Guitar" Probably By A Newfoundlander |

Hello folks. I'm not sure in which section to pst this. A friend of mine who had a country band in Toronto a number of years ago had a song entitled, "Cry,Steel Guitar" NOT THE popular Kitty Wells one covered by many others. The tune I'm searching was sung by I believe (but not necessarily only by) a Newfoundlander by the name of Tommy Snow. That surname is very popular in Newfoundland. The song lyrics are:
"Here I am again tonight
With my little country band.
Playing country music
On a one-night stand.
Beside me is the urge
To give up and die.
That's why I'm making
My old guitar cry".
(Bridge)
So, Cry, Cry Steel guitar (rest not remembered)
I've done much searching on the net but unable to find a clue. Are there any steelers in Newfoundland that might have heard of this tune, or who have heard of Tommy Snow please.

George.if you get a hold of Roy Thompson .he is a member here on the forum from Windsor Nova Scotia. he may be able to help you Roy has been playing a lot of years pedal and non pedal steel great player. and also Chris Le Drew from Saint John Newfoundland. Chris is also a member here look up some of the older post i,am sure you will find them both. either one of them may be able to help you ,. good luck.

Thanks Wayne. Roy and I are good friends. I never vist back to my home province without going to see Roy. A great guy. Thanks, I didn't think of him for this project. I'll also ask Chris.

The only one I remember is the Marty Robbins tune, Cry, Steel Guitar.

There's a chance that the fellow put different words to the song.
I have a song called: "Crying Steel Guitar Waltz" and the refrain goes something like this:
"So, Cry, steel guitar, cry on!
You're crying because you know she is gone;
Gone with another and I'm alone, So cry,
steel guitar, cry on." |

Artist could be Lloyd Snow, a prolific singer, songwriter from Nfld.
I only have 1 of his cd's and that song isn't on it.

Hi Graham and Erv and thanks for your comments. I should have mentioned in my initial statement that it is not Lloyd Snow. The lady that is looking for this used to sing this song in her band with Tommy Snow. He indicated that he wrote it, but of course, that may not be the case.
