Keyboards are great at simulating a lot of instruments, but rest assured, they'll never nail down the pedal steel to simple mathematics.

Not sure, but I thought the "pedal steel" in Dan Fogelberg's "Run For The Roses" was done on keyboard.

Sorry, But I was just venting some frustration.
While there are some keyboard players who can do a credible job of emulating some pedal steel parts, just taking a guitar-like sound and randomly bending the notes doesn't cut it. |

Rich, AL Perkins was on the album. Why fake it with aa keyboard when you have Al at hand?

I wasn't sure; maybe I'm confusing this song with some other one. I DO remember ONE album from that time period had "keyboard" steel, just don't remember which.

Hello, Mr Ron,
It is interesting that you mention this. I have written some music that BECAUSE of the inability of the keyboard to fully mimic the pedal steel, inspired me to take up learning the real thing.
The Yamaha keyboard that I have does have a "pedal steel" setting, in which only the lowest note slides up or down with the pitch-bend lever. That way, you can play a "C" chord (G, C, E) and slide the G up to A, making it an Am chord. Nice, limited, but still not the real thing.
I use a keyboard as a learning aid for my steel guitar.
