Hey,
Has anyone tried shipping a steel to England from the US. What carrier did you use? What kind of $$$ was it? How much of a PITA. I have a UK buyer for my Fender T8, and I'd like to make this work for him, but I just haven't done this before.
Advice?
Thanks! |

Wood blocks in the pedal section.
Double check your insurance. |

Ted Nesbitt and Ken Byng will probably be the guys to talk to with regard to this subject - they have both imported a lot of guitars into the UK over the years. _________________ 14'Zumsteel Hybrid D10 9+9

Thanks.....anyone else with any experience?
And......Kia ora, Paddy! Very jealous of you there in Christchurch. My wife's a Kiwi and I've been trying to get her to move home (with me!) for 25 years. Lots of great memories of spending time with some of her family in Diamond Harbour. |

Jim, the best advice I can give you is to talk to the USPS and they can give you the Forms and particulars of what you need to do to ship via USPS.
I have shipped Guitars/Amps to UK, Ireland, Germany, France and several other countries in Europe. I found that the USPS was the least costly compared to FedEx or UPS. I never had any problems or made any claims using USPS. Pack your guitar well! |

And make sure you leave the Handle exposed...It really is no big deal shipping overseas. |

I knew if we waited just a wee bit longer, "Mr. Glass-Half-Empty" would appear on our doorstep; he never fails... _________________ www.JimCohen.com

Jim, I own a Williams guitar, and have talked to owner/builder Bill Rudolph enough to know that he's shipped Williams PSG's all over the world. If you don't find the info you need here on the forum, you can find his contact info on their website and I'll bet he can tell you what he's done. He's a good guy...
Good luck,

From this end, I had a BMI SD10 shipped from the states to here in England and was relatively trouble free. not too pricey, using Fed Ex. and yes, it arrived in one piece!
my only advice is to get the UK buyers telephone number, as Customs will need it to contact him/her regarding import duty. otherwise they will have to wait for a letter to arrive. |

As for this:
"chris ivey wrote:

I've read too many posts on this site which confirm what Chris has said be it in terms of damed shipments (OK not always the shippers fault), lost broken shipments, trying to get one's money back when there is damage etc.
I myself, have had trouble with FED-EX and UPS in particular on instruments which had been packaged well by the sellers but were roughly handled and damaged. The ensuing time needed to make a claim and get some sort of compensation can be long indeed if you have gone through the process.

BTW....the UK sale fell through, and a very nice forum member from Hawaii bought my Fender triple neck. USPS Priority was fast (just 3 days, from Philly), got it there safely and cost HALF of UPS, which was less than Fed-Ex. At least in this instance, it was a positive experience. |
