I've seen a couple of threads on here where Emmons players didn't like the Pentad pickup.
I have Pentad on my guitar, and it sounds great. just curious, why are the pentads
not very popular?
another question,IYO, what is the best sounding pickup for the Emmons guitar?

Terry, There many great sounding pu's out there but my choice is Jerry Wallace's True Tones. I put a pair of 18.5's on my LeGrande ll. they made a great sounding guitar sound even better. I chose 18.5's because I play an Evans amp and they to have a lot more highs. Jerry winds his to 17.5,18.5 and 19.5 or any ohm that you want.
One of these days I would like to try the 17.5 and the 19.5 just for fun, but for right now I am so happy with the 18.5. Jerry has a website that answers a lot of questions and you can call and talk to him. He is very nice guy to visit with and has a lot of knowledge of pickups and electronic. Just my reply. Good luck and as always,

I ordered my '83 S-10 with the Pentad.
I rarely changed the position switch but never really got into the sound of the Pentad myself.
I would like to hear from a fan of the Pentad myself to see what I was missing.

Thanks Larry.
Ricky, what did you not like about the sound of the Pentad? to bright, to mellow? just curious, because your not the first I've heard say they didn't like them.
I've also heard Mr Lashley don't recomend the pentad for people gettin new guitars from him.

Mr Jack Matthews said he liked the little Emmons single coil pickup for sound, but said they have a buzz to them if under lights and stuff.
my Pentad are quiet as a mouse.

I originally had Pentads on my LeGrande. I only cared for one tone setting out of five. After playing a P/P thru the same set-up, I had the factory install Emmons single coils. The guitar sounds like an Emmons now. |

Well, it seems nobody cares for the pentad PU, but I like the different tones I can get out of it. I was playin along with Tom Brumley's Tom Cattin tape yesterday, playin Tracy's Waltz, and I switched my tone control over to the trebelish position and I was fairly close the tone on the tape. or at least it sounded close to my ears.
And, I can get almost the exact tone, to Rabbit Easter's "Steel Heaven". very perty instrumental. course Rabbit plays an Emmons to. I have one switch that gives me two different tones, and another that gives me two more, plus a tone control knob. anyhow, I ain't got nothin against the Pentad.
