Does anyone know where I can get GLOSS formica to restore a steel? I only need a 12x36" or larger. Thanks, L.M. |

You call Formica and order it. It does not matter what city you call. I call Formica distributors in several cities to get discontinued colors such as rosewood. They ship.
If it is an Emmons, you ask for SG (Standard Grade) and tell them the color you want. If it is an early Emmons, it is the fire retardant stuff with the dark back.
Some other brands use VG (Vertical Grade) which is about half as thick (0.025). WilsonArt is another brand used by some makers and I think they only make the thinner stuff.
To do a restoration, you need to know how thick your original mica is and what brand it is. If it is an Emmons, replacing the original mica with thinner mica will look stupid on the front apron because the aluminum strips will stick out. The aluminum strips are custom, not standard size, and made to be slightly thicker than the 0.048" (0.043 - 0.053 range) mica. _________________ Chris Lucker

L. M, I have gloss black in the thick Wilsonart. It is the thickness used on Emmons LeGrandes.
