Sure. I suspect there are variations on what people call pockets, but I'll take a stab at it.
We're in GMajor
There are certain fret/pedal/lever combinations where G chord and scale tones live. These are pockets.
Third fret -- no pedals
Sixth fret -- A+F
Eighth fret -- Eb lever
Tenth fret -- A+B
then back to
Fifteenth fret -- no pedals
It's possible to play a full major scale with little bar movement in each of those positions just using the standard pedals and levers. Learn all of those at all positions. THAT'S STEP 1
Step 2. Now take all those positions and find a way to tie them together with other scale notes that are 'in between'. There are many ways to do that.
Step 3 is to take the pockets and navigate between them using the 'tie them together' notes. When improvising you can stay in any given position as long as you want, playing fragments of scales or other licks that you play out of that pocke, then moving on as your little heart desires. :-)
That's an E9 example. There are ways to do the same thing on C6. Buddy Emmons published several articles on that topic. He also covered pockets where minor scale notes are found. Those articles are on http://www.buddyemmons.com .
Hope this helps.
