This Tri-cone is SOLD and donation made to the Forum....please remove this posting
This one is a beauty with its German Nickel Silver in great shape for an instrument of this age. Sounds like a million bucks.

Ben Elder reminded me that this is actually a Style 2 with the roses...I had it written down as a Style 2 but then vaguely recalled someone telling me that without all the flourish they were called Style 1.5...anyway, a rose by any other name huh?, its a beauty and sounds amazing. |

James I believe it's a 2.5 . I have its sister #1136. Style 2.5 has the engraving across the palm rest, Style 2 does not. It is beautiful and a great price. Ed |

Looks almost identical to my '29 tricone. Someone's going to be very lucky to get this guitar! |

".5" or "1/2" are unofficial collectors' descriptions. (I did a quick double-check of Bob Brozman's National book and see no reference to ".5" or "-1/2".) Actually, engraving patterns changed over time. Pictured here is an earlier (ca. 1928, s/n in the 500s). Note the three groups of roses and plain bridge cover. The engraving on the bridge cover only came later. Similarly, Style 3 and 4 coverplates started out plain, upgraded to "flow-through" patterns (engraving continued from body onto coverplate) and later went back to simpler (i.e., less costly) plain coverplates.
Relevant point here is that James's Style 2 is a tremendous example from National when tricones were still the hot item and production was in full swing. (The Triolian had barely seen the light of day in its primitive forms and single-cone Duolians, Styles O and N and Don had yet to appear.) _________________ "Gopher, Everett?" |

Considering these Nationals came out in the late 1920s, they still look adventurous and modern to me. This one is so clean!!! steve t |
