Helllo Forum members,
I just finished tearing down and rebuilding my 1979 Sho-Bud Super Pro. It has all pot metal parts including the changer fingers which also have the groove in the back to catch the ball of the string and secure it for tuning. To my eye all the grooves in all the fingers look the same. My problem is that strings 9 and 10 on the C6 neck are too fat to fit into the finger groove. My first thought was that I must have put the fingers back into the changer in the wrong order but as I said, they all look to be the same. What am I missing?
The strings I’m using are: GHS Boomers C6th tuning.
The lowest string, string 10 is “C†DY70
I have searched the archives for this problem and found nothing so I know I’m missing something here. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Paul |

I have a '78 Super Pro.
The fingers are all the same. What I do for the low strings on the C6 neck is pre-bend them with needle-nose pliers. Grab the string with the pliers right next to the ball, and bend it to, or near 90 degrees, such that the round side of the ball will be against the finger, not the flat side. Then you can hook the ball end underneath the slot, and the loop of core wire that goes around the ball will notch into the slot. This has never failed me in 32 years. |
