Well I finally got a second one here for the E9 neck and on the steel.

17.5 ohm wind, like Lloyd got.
And it does the same good things it did on my C6 neck.
Warmth AND presence!

Merci Jerry
I do NOT miss the 705 at all.

Now if my Stetson gets here I am totally set for the Paris gig Monday afternoon and evening in Garrene Colombe.

David,
I think that the 17.5 wind is still my favorite wind on the TrueTones....I've played a few different winds, but I always seem to come back to the 17.5k ....I think it has the sweetest high's of all the different windings on the TT pickup ...It's also a good wind for my U-12's....The lower 2 strings ring out better without the common mud from other pickups...Jim

David and James,

Can you tell me what brand of guitar each of you are using the TrueTone pickups in?

I am trying to narrow down which impedance value would be good for my Mullen SD-10.

What would be nice is to have a Sierra mount for the pickup, to do a quick A-B test .

Mark, I have a 17,500 Truetone in a "73" model big body, round front, LDG Sho Bud, and not only does it have the sweetest highs as mentioned, but also my 6th string is so very smooth, (I use a 022w), and my 8th and 10th have distinct clear lows. Hope this helps you a little bit.

RoseBud is an '81 Pro-II 8+8 and have had a TT on C6 for most of the last year.
And I have always been happy with it.

I always wanted to get the other one for E9,
but many things conspired to prevent it.
In spite of the fact Ricky D. says the 705 is his fav for Bud's,
I personally never liked it, but it came on the guitar. Possibly this one needs a rewind...

But Larry Petrie has dibs on this one when ever his e-mails starts working.

The C6th 705 is sitting on FrankenBro right now.
A 10 string, E13 ,battery powered, portable, stereo lapsteel

I recently had Jerry rewind my 73 Sho~Bud Pro II's pickups (coil taps) to 11 & 17.5K
and I could not be happier! Jerry IS the man!!

I recall hearing once that the Mullen's tone is similar to a Sho-Bud. Hey, Jimmy Day played a Mullen...

Perhaps the 17.5K is the way to go.

Mark I was checking out the Mullens, and the Fulawkas and thought they did come across as modern mechanism Bud's, so yeah that is good logic.

Jerry will gladly discuss in detail what you want the pickup to do for you.

And I have heard Lloyd Green put a 17.5 ohm TT on his legendary Bud, with a Brad Sarnu Black box... Now there will be A SOUND!

David,

Good luck at Les Vallees Monday. I hope to hear you play sometime when I am in France visiting a certain Parisienne.

Does Rose Marie have a web site?

Mark - A call or e-mail to Del Mullen, or Mike, would help. I'm sure they could give you some insightful information.

I've just put a TT at 17.8 on my E neck. Do you think the extra .3 makes a big difference?

Burton,
The extra .3 should not make too much of a difference...I think that you really start hearing differences more when you go up or down at least 1k ( 17.5k to 18.5k or similar )

Mark,
depending on the steel whether it be a brite sounding steel, or a darker sounding steel, a 17.5k Truetone will make an improvement ....For example, the 17.5k on an Emmon's P/P will smoothe out the high's,and will give you better string to string balance ....
On a darker sounding steel like a Rusler that I had which is a very full , and deep sounding steel , the 17.5 made the steel come alive !!......It was like somebody took a blanket from the front of my amp !!....The biggest improvement was the Rusler by far !!.... The pickups that were on it were very muddy sounding and the C6 neck was almost unusable ...An 18.5 k Truetone on the C6 neck is my personal choice .....It has enough bottom end to ring the note's out without them sounding muddy ....They are still pronounced.....Hope this helps.....Jim
