An unbelievably good ear-training cd (for use on a computer), is one of 4 cd's in the "instant Play Piano" software box from Best Buy. Cost for the package is $19.95. Has ability to lock or ramdomly change the root of any of 50 (selective)chord types, played in chord or arpeggio style. Can repeat any random-chord, playing as many times as you want, before revealing chord answer. It's called PET (personal ear trainer), and has 25 different intervals in any key and inversion. Thirty-nine chord types played in all inversions. Doesn't require any music study knowledge. It's great.

A bass playing friend of mine recommended "Ultimate Ear Training for Guitar and Bass" by Gary Willis.

I like the idea of being able to use the one you mention on my computer, so I am on my way to Best Buy to pick this one up also...

I picked this up yesterday afternoon at Best Buy.
It really is good. You have complete control over the pacing of your study, can vary the tempo of scales, can select which intervals, triads or chords to include for study and, because the program generates random selections of intervals, triads or chords you are not locked into a finite number of tests.

Very cool!

For the newbies, of which I am destined to always be one, (40 years a newbie.... bummer) might I also recommend Buddy Emmons course on E9th Chord Vocabulary, with cassette, available from the forum for the unbelievably low price of $10.00.

I just got it, started listening to it last night, and can only say I wish I'd a had it 20 years ago when I could remember things better (i.e. memorizing didn't require a baseball bat.)

Used in conjunction with the "ear trainer" you really get a "killer app".
