The Northern California based band San Geronimo (featuring Dave Zirbel on pedal steel) recorded the song Man Who's Blue with just one microphone! Great job Dave Zirbel and company! _________________ Brad’s Page of Steel

Thanks Brad! The steel sounds a little pitchy to me but that's the take everyone liked...or the one that was video taped. I was amazed that the steel sounded that big through a 5 watt Fender Tweed Champ with an 8" speaker....
Here's the other tune we did, no pedal steel though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vX9-Esh-eqE
The session was an experiment spearheaded by John Cuniberti to see if he could record a band with one stereo microphone. We were there for 6 hours and at least half the time was spent getting amp and drum placement/volumes... _________________ Dave Zirbel-

Great job Dave!
Not being critical of your bandmates, but if anything sounded a little pitchy to me it was the vocals. Or maybe it was the steel and the vocals were right on?
I'm not complaining! I really like it and the whole thing, the quality of the video, the panning around the studio, the sound in my headphones - I hadn't read your post prior to viewing and when I saw the Little Fender Champ I was thinking "wait a second - is Dave's steel coming out of that little thing?"
San Geronimo is great. Along with bands like another one with whom Dave has played and recorded, I See Hawks in L.A., and Tim & Nicki Bluhm's occasional aggregation, Broke Down In Bakersfield and others - the vibe is being kept alive here in California. _________________ Mark |

Mark, as always you are too kind. Thanks for your continued support!
Just to clarify, Dan Lebowitz played steel with Broke Down in Bakersfield. Maybe you're confusing them with the Par Value Country Band that features Tim, Scott Law and myself... _________________ Dave Zirbel-

Actually, I should have done a better job on that sentence since I know Dan plays the steel in Brokedown in Bakersfield, after the fact I realized it's confusing.
I mentioned that band as an example of one of the groups who has been keeping the California country rock plus Bakersfield sound alive here in the Golden State.
And while we're at it, a shoutout to Par Value as well.
Scott Law - that guy can play about anything on the guitar, acoustic or electric. He even has his own signature model dreadnought from Santa Cruz Guitars. Most of the times I've seen Scott it's more in the bluegrass scenario. He's done some shows with Mike Witcher on dobro at Terrapin Crossroads - killer! _________________ Mark |
