Right now I am playing E9th pedal only, but Down the road, I was thinking I would get back into C6th again, but want to do it in an inexpensive way, so I am wondering if I could pick up a single neck and put C6th tuning on it...i wouldnt have to have 5 pedals on it to keep me going. Any ideas or comments would be appreciated. Maybe finding an "inexpensive", under $1,000, steel that i could do this with isnt a possibility...what other ideas would you suggest. Thanks in advance ! _________________ Zum Encore, Remington D8 non pedal, Hallmark Mosrite clone, Gretsch 6120 DSW, Gretsch G5210T-P90 Electromatic Jet Two 90,1976 Ibanez L5, Eastman archtop, Taylor Dreadnaught, Telonics pedal, Squire Tele, Squire Strat, Fender Tonemaster, Gold Tone 5 string banjo, Little Wonder tenor banjo, 3 Roland cubes 30s and 80, Carvin combo bass amp |

An acceptable, though very basic, C6 tuning can be put on a 6139 Sho-Bud, that had 3p/1k. You'd lose the boo-wah and some other changes but a HUGE amount of C6 could be played on that pedal/lever combo.
Trick is finding a 6139 for under 1K. That, my friend, is up to you. _________________ My rig: Infinity and Telonics.

MSA often have extra cleats on the pedal bar. They can be fairly easily expanded _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

Lane is of course correct if you're seeking guitars other than Sho~Bud. Thing is, finding anything that would be acceptable for a C6 tuning under $1K is the problematic part of it.
I think that a 1st generation Maverick, with some extra added pulls, could be made into a very basic C6 guitar without much problem. But it would take a little spare-parts shade-tree engineering to get it done on the cheap. That could prob'ly get you in for under a grand. _________________ My rig: Infinity and Telonics.

Thanks for the tips...I might need to raise my budget a bit it seems...I looked up the 6139 and those are nice looking for sure...maybe by the time I get back to the c6th i will have some more jingle...btw Herb I was just today working on your E9th swinging on E9th book...lots of good material there and fun to play ! Makes me think I dont need a C6th,,but then the sound is different as you know ! Look forward to seeing you in Dallas ! _________________ Zum Encore, Remington D8 non pedal, Hallmark Mosrite clone, Gretsch 6120 DSW, Gretsch G5210T-P90 Electromatic Jet Two 90,1976 Ibanez L5, Eastman archtop, Taylor Dreadnaught, Telonics pedal, Squire Tele, Squire Strat, Fender Tonemaster, Gold Tone 5 string banjo, Little Wonder tenor banjo, 3 Roland cubes 30s and 80, Carvin combo bass amp |

This is what i did when i started to play C6 again. Get you a Rogue Lap Steel and tune it to C6 and relearn the chord positions on a plain c6 tuning! Cant beat it for less that a $100! _________________ Rittenberry Prestige(2) |

Yes I have a triple neck Fender stringmaster that I have one neck tuned to a C6th....actually the reason I got back into non pedal steel again was to improve my technique and knowledge on the C6th tuning with the intentions of going back to C6th pedal with stronger fundamentals...I think I have accomplished "some" of that goal Always room for improvement, and as it turned out I loved the C6th non pedal (which was my roots back in the 60s), so much I still play it daily and love that old Fender sound. _________________ Zum Encore, Remington D8 non pedal, Hallmark Mosrite clone, Gretsch 6120 DSW, Gretsch G5210T-P90 Electromatic Jet Two 90,1976 Ibanez L5, Eastman archtop, Taylor Dreadnaught, Telonics pedal, Squire Tele, Squire Strat, Fender Tonemaster, Gold Tone 5 string banjo, Little Wonder tenor banjo, 3 Roland cubes 30s and 80, Carvin combo bass amp |

Larry, I found my home on the C6 tuning. I mean, I started professionally on the E9 in 1968, and I did play hard core corn with Johnny Bush for 14 years, but when I decide on a tune that I want to play, it's usually been a natural for the C6. Blues, jazz, Sinatra, Porter, Great American Songbag stuff.
The tonality of the 10 string E9 can approximate the sound I seek, as in my courses (thanks, for the plug, bro ), but the fullness I want is found on the C neck. The voicings are more favorable to the tunes I play here at the house and on my band gigs.
And the chords available on even a basic 3p/1k setup would outstrip any non-pedal guitarist to the greatest extent. With the possible exception of Billy Robinson. Really, there's no comparison to a non-pedal guitar. _________________ My rig: Infinity and Telonics.

The alternative to a 6139 was a guitar with 6 pedals and 1 or no knee levers (6140?). One of those would be pretty easy to set up for a pretty comprehensive C6 copedent.
I have the push-pull equivalent (6+2), which is a very fun toy but much more work to convert. Thank you Masters Behm and Stafford!
A 6140 might be not too far from your price range, and they do show up from time to time. |

Actually, for my purposes this thread can be closed.
I have a Mullen SD10 on order and decided to upgrade it to a D10...I figured heck by the time I found a single C6th in my price range, I would then have two steels, one with E9th and the other with C6th and about the same amount of money tied up as I would with a D10...sometimes my line of reasoning goes a little "hay wire" on me, but I think I made the right decision to go that route...that way I always have both tunings right there wherever I play....hmmm wonder if thats why they made D10s in the first place ? haha _________________ Zum Encore, Remington D8 non pedal, Hallmark Mosrite clone, Gretsch 6120 DSW, Gretsch G5210T-P90 Electromatic Jet Two 90,1976 Ibanez L5, Eastman archtop, Taylor Dreadnaught, Telonics pedal, Squire Tele, Squire Strat, Fender Tonemaster, Gold Tone 5 string banjo, Little Wonder tenor banjo, 3 Roland cubes 30s and 80, Carvin combo bass amp |

Larry, I have a couple S10s in the two tunings, but I use them for specific pro gig situations. My general go-to guitar is a D-10, and you have made the correct choice. Mullen is a fine guitar. _________________ My rig: Infinity and Telonics.
