Besides the Roland GR-55 synth is there anything else that sounds good and is not $800?

I'd like to know too. MIDI is the only way I know. They sure nailed Organ with that one pedal tho.

It's not a bad pedal and it does what it does well, but nowhere near what a midi system can do.

I've got a number of midi units for sale at the shop including a couple of IVL Pitchriders, one of Al Petty's SteelGuitorchestras that used to belong to Reece Anderson (basically a Pitchrider),and a Photon unit. While they can be used to trigger a piano it has been my experience that they are better suited for slower attack and less staccato instruments like strings, horns, etc. as it can be a bit of an exercise to get the piano sounds (again in my hands) to trigger correctly w/o false triggers. I asked Buddy Emmons one time about the use of midi as he did so masterfully on his wonderful Christmas album and how he was able to do it so well w/o false triggers and he replied that he gave up using it because of that very reason. All that being said- I still dig 'em Smile .

If you just want to comp behind a song like, say, "little sister" then just use a plastic cigarette lighter instead of the tone bar. It isn't too successful for anything but comping. And It may have been mentioned here before. I don't know. But.....It will certainly cost less that $1800.

Don't laugh! Just try it.

A small midi key board for under 200... put it on a key rack above the steel... wear a labcoat to the gig.

Try Jam Origin (converts audio from PSG to polyphonic MIDI) I've been using the demo. Use with PC/Mac even ipod

Lots of free pianos out there. Try before you buy kind of thing. Let me know if you are not cpu literate with the computer music thing.

Stephen - What would do you use and what would you recommend as an Midi interface for the Jam Origin w/ iPad. Price is not a factor but portability is. For instance - would the Apogee "Jam" cut it? I would just be using it live. Thanks in advance for any info and thanks for posting. Didn't know this was available.

I have two steelriders for Sale.See Forum topic amps accys.I've played mine for over 10 yrs with no
problems. It tracks as fast as I could play my piano Chops.Just don't tremolo your Bar and set your sensitivity gains and string clearance.
Playing midi is a new ballgame and practice the touch
without tremelo and keeping the bar on the fret marker.
The steelrider needs to be set up with electronic
no how to get it to work right.
I mounted my amps under my U 12 Zum by unplugging the
pickup wires off the amps routing thru changer back to amps on a bracket and clamped wire harness. This is a process that most players can't do.This worked for 10 yrs until I sold the ZUM.Put everthing in a 4 space rack.IVL effects M3R KORG or synth and IVL unit.CHUCK
