anyone use a Mesa Boogie DC-3 with pedal steel ? thinking of unloading my twin and picking up one of these for smaller rock type gigs where I tube amp with a 12" speaker would be useful. also to use with guitar..

Karen: I used to own a DC3. It was great with a lap steel for screaming rock solos, but it's virtually impossible to get a good clean tone for pedal steel, or for real tele twang. It has too many gain stages in the preamp, or so I was told by the local Mesa certified tech. I tried repeatedly to get the amp to play a respectable clean, and could never get there. It is not a good substitute for a Twin. Also, it's very heavy. Almost as heavy as a Twin, so what's the point.
