| I have a Mesa Boogie Subway Rocket 20 watt amp. Have been changing speakers with the latest being a 10 inch Ragin Cajun. Nice vibe but not quite what I'm looking for. Any suggestions for a vintage vibe? |

I've not used it for lap ... had good luck with Emi Copperheads. Nice balance, nice drive. By comparison, the Ragin Cajin always struck me as too hard, too loud and too bassy.
My favorite of all the 10" ceramics is the WGS G10C. Had the equivalent WGS model in 12" and 15" sizes also. The 10 inch one is a winner. Very much like a vintage Jensen ceramic, only fuller, louder, not snappy or harsh when you push it. Very balanced sound, but again, haven't tried for steel yet.

Michael,
Thanks for the info. I happen to have a Copperhead so I will try that and see how it responds. The WGS speakers are good and price friendly so I may just order the G10C
and try that also. The Mesa Subway rocket is a smoking amp and easy to carry also. It just needs to be tamed with a good speaker. |

I would look forward to plugging in to the the new Peavey amp. Peavey always has their ear to the ground for us steel players...👠|

maybe just a less efficient speaker? i would think that might help with 'too much bass'.

| I will install the Eminence Copperhead speaker as it has a much smaller magnet than the Ragin Cajun. The best way I can explain what vibe I am getting is the plain strings sound crisp but the wound strings get boomy. Not a technical explanation🤓 I'll report back later when I get the speaker changed. |

OK.....I replaced the Rajin Cajun speaker in my Mesa Subway Rocket with a Copperhead speaker that I already had in a box and what a difference. That boomy bass on the wound strings went away and has a very balanced vibe with all strings. Also, the amp has a lead channel that I was avoiding as the overdrive was muddy but now that channel is very usable with a Bad to the Bone vibe.
So glad I posted this topic and thanks to all that responded...👠|
