Just saw the previews for the new Hank Williams movie. Just wondering who the steel guitar player might be?

That would be Chris Scruggs playing the steel on the soundtrack. But Wes Langlois is playing Dom Helms in the movie

I'm reading Colin Escott's "I Saw The Light" which the movie is based on - excellent book.

Hmmm. Looks like they missed another opportunity. I'm thinking maybe Hollywood should leave Hank alone...

In the new movie,"I Saw The Light", there's a couple things that were great to see from a steelers point of view.
Hanks in a studio and he turns to the steel player, played by Chris Scruggs, and says "Hi Jerry!" and immediately I knew he was talking about Jerry Byrd. He even got a Credit at the end.
Don Helms (Wes Langlois) was prominently featured in the band and as Hanks driver.

Who's gonna play Sonny???...

If they knew what was good for them... they would hire Sonny to do the soundtrack. He's better now than he was then!

I have low expectations myself. I wonder if they ever considered using the spitting image...

Dag nab it (as we country folk say), that already pegs my weirdness meter right from the git-go (as we country folk say). Watching for the wrong reasons may be worse than not watching at all? I found out that Muhammed Ali, Johnny Cash, Ray Charles and all them guys, throw in George Washington, Pee-Wee Herman and Genghis Khan if you want, they ALL HAVE EXACTLY THE SAME STORY! Somehow Hollywood managed to derive that every really important person has the same story "arc", which sure does makes telling stories easier. Change a few names, dates, costumes & redemptions around, and it turns out, we're all exactly alike under the skin!* Right from the git-go.... Rolling Eyes At least Genghis Khan had John Wayne in it.
