So, I think my eyes were bigger than my stomach...or at least, my talent. I got excited and bought a '53 Fender T8 Custom. It's really more than I need, and I'm considering moving it and picking up up a single neck. I had to have two of the pickups rewound, so I only have strings on the near neck (C6). Before I buy strings and string up the other two necks, a question......
Would it better to wait until there's a buyer and let them string it to whatever additional tuning they prefer? Seems a waste to guess what someone might want, then just have them cut off the strings anyway.
Thoughts?

....aaaaaaand I just sat down to play it, and thought "Am I nuts?!?!"
Even if I don't really NEED it, this thing is super cool. |

Hey, Jim...
A few years ago, I had to rewind a pickup on a Custom. I don't think it cost too much. Well worth the effort and expense.
They're such nice instruments... |

Thanks.......I actually did have them done, (by Ton Brantley), and reinstalled.....just hadn't restrung it yet.
BTW......this isn't the Andrew I know, is it? Of the famous Pocono Mountain Boys?? |

First off, don't sell it. It may never leave your house, but for practice, having a few extra necks could be great - allows you to explore some new tunings without having to restring.
If you do sell it, string it up. I know that, for me, personally, when I see a guitar for sale that doesn't have strings, my first thought is that there is something wrong with it and/or the seller is trying to hide something. |

I never change the strings on an instrument I'm going to sell, nor do I even want to remove it from the case once the decision is made.
If I do, I inevitably think, "Hey, there's a reason I bought this in the first place. It sounds good!"
However, as Andy recommends above, an instrument will sell easier if it has strings on it. Otherwise, you're courting the archeologist/parts market. |

I would say string it up--I'm always skeptical about an instruments performance/setup if there aren't strings on it. That way you could also speak to the balance between pickups. |
