I recently bought a 1973 MSA D10 Classic, 8 pedals / 2 levers. It came with the original manual. After reading through it I came across the tuning set up for E9 but it doesn't jive with what I am used to.
Suggested manual tuning as follows:
1st string ( F#)
2nd string ( Eb)
3rd string ( Ab)
4th string ( E )
5th string ( B )
6th string ( Ab)
7th string ( F#)
8th string ( E)
9th string ( D)
10th string ( B)
Can some one tell me why the 2nd, 3rd and 6th strings are different? Should I tune to standard or suggested tuning in manual? |

that's a e9th tuning, maybe your put off as tuning uses flats instead of sharp . ,Ab = G# and so on,,, |

Doug and John thank you for clarifying what I suspected. So just tune as if it were F#,D#,G#,E,B,G#,F#,E,D,B? |

Typically you don't mix flats and sharps, you choose one or the other, it depends on the key signature of the music written on staff..( at least by European classical theories) Those MSA guitars are great, bullet-proof sound great and won't ever break, I loves me some MSA. Great purchase Donnie. _________________ A.K.A Chappy. |

Thanks Larry, I do really like it. I have begun disassembling it and polishing all the aluminum and chrome. I'm smart enough to take it apart and reassemble it but honestly I don't know how to correctly adjust it. Have been looking for someone locally to do that after all cleaning is finished. |

For adjustments, you can see the "rodding charts" for which rods in which holes in the bellcranks and changer. If you get it right, both pulls on a shaft will arrive at pitch together. Unless you change what knees do what, you shouldn't have to change any pedal or lever stops. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
