I remember Winnie's articulate and well-illustrated articles in the PSGA newsletter on the mechanics of pedal steel. And that wonderful book... I sure appreciated his writings back in those pre-internet days when PSG info was hard to come by. One of the heroes of pedal steel.
It was Winnie who convinced me to buy a Kline, when he demonstrated one at a PSGA event, in 1977 I think. His opinion carried a lot of cred with me, and his descriptions of the quality, precision and mechanical advantages of the Kline were a stark contrast to the Sho-Bud R&B and Maverick, the only steels I had experience with at the time. (I was also impressed by the fact that he actually took a bandsaw to his own hand-made steel to convert it for a Kline tuner!) |

That was great to see.
I couldn't help but notice his choice of footwear.
(considering all the posts on this forum about'"what to wear" for the pedals. |

Winnie wanted his guitar to go back to Joe (Kline)when he passed,,,and it's the guitar Joe uses now. Don't know if this is the same guitar he is playing here,,,this one looks a little darker,,but then the whole vid is dark,,so,,,maybe the same guitar,,,,a beautiful tiger stripe maple as I recall. |
