Topic: 1" over height? |

Hi guys,
Ive been considering adding a lift kit to my steel guitar. Im not a very tall guy (5' 10") But I notice that I have trouble actuating the knee levers as i am pushing them at the highest part of the lever. Its not allowing any leverage. I also am always on the vertical lever and rubbing the underside of my steel with my legs. Do you think this would solve my problems? Thanks

if so, use that one for a guide. |

Yes Jeff. That's what I did. I played for a while with a 1" kit, but am now trying a 1/2" lift kit. It seems to be working some for me. I needed to lower it some from the 1" because of the weakness on my right side, my elbow is dropping. I'm trying to see how I can lessen that problem.

When you are seated, are your legs at right angles? My current homemade pac a seat is too high, my legs are not at right angles and I'm brushing the underside of the guitar as well.
I need to cut an inch or so off of the seat legs to get to a more comfortable sitting position.

Chris,
I've been comfortable the most with my RP mullen.
I have been adjusting my New G2 to get her as close as possible to the way I had my RP adjusted. Its making me think more and more about "fitting" a guitar to me.
I am realizing just how important it is to have the guitar as comfortable as possible. As for the other guitars I've owned , I really wasn't playing serious enough at the time to even know how comfortable I was with them. I guess Ill just have to experiment a bit.
I agree about telescoping pedal rods! I have been tossing the idea of a build around for a while and telescoping rods are def. in the plans.
Does one usually need to buy new legs for heightening a guitar, or just if lowering? Thanks

Jeff. Mullen has these rings that go on the front legs and the 1/2 in. wooden dowels you would need inside the legs. the length of the dowels would depend on how high you raise it. I'm 6'1 and my
Mullen is raised one inch. That may be to high for you. Of course you'll have to get the pull rod extensions. If you raise it a 1/2 inch you may have enough threading on the rods to lower your pedals, although I doubt it. Your pedals may be a tad high at a 1/2 in. Just saying. It's not gospel. Tennessee Lee

I'm looking for one of the lift kit collars, with a threaded stud for the front legs where the pedal bar attaches. I have a 1/2", but would like one smaller. Does nyone have a source ?

Have you tried raising the rear legs and tilting the guitar forward slightly? |

I'm 6'3" and play with a 1" lift. Even considering that people are constructed differently, it seems that you should be good at standard height. Is it possible that your seat is too high?

| Shoes could make a difference as well...thickness of soles, height of heel on a cowboy boot etc. I'm 6' and play in flat sole moccasins and life is good with standard length legs. |

| Well you can raise the roof. BUT CHECK the 1st Floor before you raise the roof. Is your seat the right Height? Do you set comfortable with your feet flat on the floor. Does your seat have tubular legs? Some builders make the legs long for those tall people. At 5' 9 1/2" I had to cut about 1 1/2 inches off a new seat and then I was more comfortable. With Cowboy boots on I rubbed on the bottom of steel and it was hard to work the knee levers. If the seat has aluminum legs you can be cut them with a tubing cutter. Its easy to remove the rubber feet, cut the legs and put the feet back on is a lot cheaper and quicker. Good Luck and Happy Steelin |
