Two questions:

1. What is the diffence between an "all pull" and "push-pull" mechanism? Which one is generally considered better?

2. What is meant by "triple raise/triple lower"?

(Ok, that's actually three questions.)

I've been doing searches on the forum and on the "Ask Bud" Carter website and couldn't find this info. Apologies for what are obviously very newbie questions. I'm trying to get some of the technical stuff under my belt before my CS gets here and I actually start concentrating on learning to play. Thanks in advance for your patience! :-)

The knowledge you seek glasshopper may be found here:
http://www.steelguitarinfo.com/infoindex.html

Click on "basic understanding of the mechanics"

Scroll down to "Pedal Steel Guitar -- Parts Function Map (TOP View)"

Scroll down to "Changer (Control Bridge)"

View the various diagrams of the "All Pull" changer. Also on this page is a link to diagrams of the "Push/Pull" changer.

"Triple Raise/Triple (or Double) Lower" refers to the number of positions on the all-pull raise finger where pull rods can be attached; and therefore the number of raises or lowers that can be accomplished on any individual string. Theoretically, a Triple Raise/Triple Lower changer can have three rods attached to raise one string via three different pedals or levers and three rods attached to lower one string via three different pedals or levers. Similar for the Triple/Double changer.

Doh!

I looked right at that page and it apparently didn't register with me. Thanks for the "slap upside the head" (and the info about the triple/double raise/lower).

I promise to do better due dilligence before posting additional questions. :-)

cheers!
