Hey Guys,

I've recently had to lug my gear around to practice more than I want and I'm thinking about moving to a lighter guitar.

I have a S-10 MSA 3&4 with an E-66 pickup. It's got a red lacquer finish with the silkscreen fretboard.

It is not in perfect condition (a few dings and what not), but assuming it was in good condition, what is the ballpark value on this guitar? As I understand the Classic SS and Vintage XL's are some of the nicer sounding original MSA guitars.. however, I don't see much history on the Vintage-XL in the "for sale" section, especially in as S-10.

Thanks so much for any help. I really love this guitar, but it is not as portable as I want.

Also, if I will regret selling this and should suck it up I wouldn't mind hearing why.

-Jon

I'd say $1,600 - $1,800 is in the ballpark.

if you can't lift that how are you going to move your mullen?
start exercising, ride a bike, push a boulder up a mountain.
a lot of it is just learning how to move the weight and don't be a wimp about it. you'll develop a rhythm.

Keep the guitar and get a case with wheels.

As for regrets selling it.. you said it.. you love the guitar. Smile

How about a split case or some sort of lighter case such as a modified SKB, etc.?

Thanks for the feedback.

I was eyeballing that ETS on the for sale section and the Moyo bofore that mainly because my practice space is in a basement with three steep left 90 deg turns.... The weight would make it easier, but in all honestly the shape is still pretty tricky.

I've been contemplating trying to convert a child carrier backpack we've got laying around to carry my steel or somehow add a shoulder harness to hold the steel vertically on my back so I can make corners easier. Maybe I should more deeply explore that option.

Thanks for the feedback.

Jon, I have the exact same steel, only green. One thing that I've done to lighten the load is to put all the hardware in the gig bag that came with my Martin Backpacker. The guitar rides solo in the case. If you want to carry the case more vertically, maybe look into installing a handle on the end so you can carry it two-handed.

Tommy,

Thanks for the tip. I have a backpacker so that's def an option, but would require an addtl trip to the car. I've got a backpacker so maybe I'll give this a try for a couple weeks to see how it works.

I was pondering an idea like this:

Replace the kid with a steel in it's case.

but then you'll need to add feet and arms to your steel.
no one said playing steel was going to be easy.
it might just not be for everybody.

It already has legs and fingers. Can't be that hard.

Sorry for the drift. I have what I need. Thanks for the comments and opinions.

Jon,

Consider this:

You can talk to me about the guitar, but talk to Kit baker about the dough.
