My wife's grandparents used to dance to this band in Houston or California. My wife thinks the photo was taken in the 1940s or '50s. Does anybody have any info on the band or any of the musicians? How about the steel?

Jim that photo was taken in the early 70's.. I can tell by the Kustom PA equipment being used, also a 10 pedal steel guitar and aluminum domed speakers.. Might have been as early as 68 or so, but I think it would be 1970 or later.. It certainly wasn't 40's or 50's.... bob _________________ I'm over the hill and hittin'rocks on the way down!

Jim, I just did a google search and got a few hits, the band was active in the Houston area in the early 70s.
There was one fairly recent article from the "Gonzales Inquirer" that seems related, it mentions Joey Krchnak and the late Bobby Bowman along with lots of other Czech-sounding names

The Central Texas Sounds played their first job as CTS in 1981, after the Ellinger Combo was reformed. Charter CTS members include Sodek, Marek, Ludwig Krause, Benny Trlicek and Dale Meyer. Four of these charter members are still with the band. Sodek plays trumpet, keyboard and vocals. Marek does trumpet, sax and vocals. Krause is on accordion. Trlicek does guitar and vocals. Other band members include Spencer Schneider who plays drums and also does vocals. Joey Krchnak is on bass, and Bobby Bowmann on steel guitar. |
Probably lots more if you look. |

Hey, thanks guys. I told my wife that the instruments, equipment and clothes, especially the slacks, look more like '60s or '70s. My brother-in-law searched the Internet but didn't get any info. Back to Google. I appreciate the information. |
