The tube went bad in my BX500 after about a year of use. As an ex amp tech the tube can go bad anytime so I don't consider this a negative on the amp. Its the best steel amp I've had and plan on keeping it for a long time.

The symptom was I had a somewhat thin sound last night at a gig, sort of like what happens when the AC line voltage is low. I didn't think to bypass the tube (dummy) to see how it sounded, I just assumed it was the AC power voltage as we had several amps and the PA head plugged into the same power strip. This morning I tried it with the tube and the tube bypass. It was still bad (with good AC power voltage) on tube and OK in bypass. I replaced the 12AX7 tube with a NOS RCA 12AX7 and it restored the MB500's great tone. I don't know what the original 12AX7 was as there are no markings on the tube.

Hello Jack do you prefer the MB500 over the Carvin. Please explain the differences. Thinking of going that route instead of a new amp

I meant BX500. I wasn't awake when I posted.

Sorry for the confusion.
