This phrase is running around my head for a few days now. I must have heard it on one of my records, but I don't know where. The song is quite slow and soft with a male voice in a higher register. Anybody can help me please?

How nice from you to reply Doug. But the above words are exactly (or almost) what is being sung in the chorus.

No Barry. But I found it! It's called "Only Love" sung by John Prine. The lyrics go correctly: only love, love only, only love.

Jimmy Fortune has a song with "you're my only love" in it and that may be the title. I think he wrote it for his brothers wedding. Nice song.

The one that comes to mind is Heart Like a Wheel as sung by Linda Ronstadt; lovely version.
Chorus: "And it's only love and it's only love...."
Heart Like a Wheel
Attributed to the Coors, from Ireland (not familiar with them), also recorded by the McGarigle sisters. I was thinking that one of them wrote it.

Thanks you two. But in my post before yours, I've stated that I found the song. Cool

Joachim, what led you to John Prine?

JOHN PRINE LYRICS

"Only Love"

You may live alone and close your eyes
Some folks do
You may dream a dream that's twice your size
All night through
When the morning comes who's to tell your dreams to
Only you

[Chorus:]
Only love, love only, only love
Will do
Only love, love only, only love
Comes true
Nothing else, you see, there nothing else
Only love, only love

I have known a love within my heart
One or two
Where one love would end and one would start
I never knew
If love should come your way you'll learn to say
I love you I love you

Barry, I have the record "Aimless Love" by him. Maybe I've listened to this album two or three times some years ago. But the refrain kept kept coming into my head a few days ago, and it drove me crazy (in a good way) because I couldn't identify it.
It was co- written by Roger Cook. This was one of my first singles I had in the sixties:

I think you'll like it too, Joachim. It's not the old Del Shannon song, but it's a good one.

Charlie, this is a little to romantic for my taste. You may argue that the JP song is similar, but still.
