I looked at a Sparkle Drive but settled on an Earth Drive. I think the Earth Drive is better suited for use with pedal steel.

Mike....I recently asked a similar question here...http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=295624

And I received no responses. I know there are guys here on the forum that use the Sparkle Drive and really like it.

I went on YouTube and looked at videos and except for maybe 1 video, none of them sounded good to my ear. What clinched it for me was that even the video produced by Voodoo Labs for their own pedal was not very good.. I would apply a non-technical term such as "squishy".

Shocked the heck out of me.

haha......Nope...I went to post and hit the submit button but nothing happened (the post didn't move forward), so I did it again and again.

Finally it took, and maybe 20 minutes after I did it, the posts popped up.

I've never tried the Earth Drive.
The Sparkle Drive is EXCELLENT for organic sounding overdrive: for just a little hair or up to the David Lindley kinda thing. It won't act like a Boss/Buzz Tone. It's also good at clean boost. Never tried it for a tone knob.

Lane,
Just do a search on You Tube where they compare the two pedals.
Besides that, a FoBro, Doug Sarno, makes the Earth Drive.

Indeed. If I didn't have the former, I'd get the latter. I've got a Black Box, and I like Brad's gear.

Brad's gear is super and he has had his ear to the ground for us steel players. 👍

I use the clean boost side of Sparkle Drive with pedal steel. To me it thickens up the sound a bit, adds a very pleasing texture that I really miss when I turn it off. So it stays on all the time. I run the Gain knob all the way off, Clean all the way on. I set the volume knob where my volume is the same with the pedal on or off. And the tone at about half.

I've never tried Brad's Earth Drive, but I'm sure that would be great too.

I've always liked the Sparkle Drive for its ability to blend in the clean signal with the overdrive. Personally, I prefer working with fuzz than overdrive, but in combination with the clean sound it creates an interesting sound. Like I said, I'm not much of a Tube Screamer fan, but the Sparkle Drive lets you add a little 'hair' to it.

thanks guys I was just experimenting some with my sparkle drive as tone control I like my steel pretty clean with my twin and jbls I use a holy grail and Ibanez de7 for a little delay. trying to figure out a way to use the same setup for steel and tele. I don't like the reverb in the 75mv twin.

If you put a lower gain tube in the reverb slot of the Twin, it'll get more friendly

I use a Sparkle Drive for the Telecaster, mild gain, I do not use it with the Steel but my take is it would do just fine. The CLEAN knob is the key to getting the Sparkle Drive tones...It's the only OD pedal I use now...

I don't remember which slot, but the 12AT7 or 12AT7 will have less gain
V3 is the reverb driver, V4 is the reverb return.

Travis Toy turned me on to the Sparkle Drive many years ago and I still use it every night for my dirty slide guitar sounds. I run the gain all the way up, the blend full dirty, and adjust the the tone and volume to my tastes.

The blend feature is what makes the Sparkle Drive unique... I have way too many OD/distortion/fuzz boxes around, but the SD and the Earth Drive do the heavy lifting. I do like the Voodoo Lab version of the Bosstone as well.
