I have a Vibrolux Reverb Amp that has lots of static and I don't know where it is coming from. What can I do to correct it? Thanks

Hi Billy,
What era amp are you asking about? Have you tried a different cable, guitar or both? Does it do the same thing through both channels? Can you hook it up to different speakers? Does it do this all the time or after the amp has been on for a while? That's all I can think of right now.Smile

A few things come to mind for popcorn.
1) run every pot several times from 0 to 10 and back. Might be dirty pots.
2) tap the tubes one by one with a wooden stick or the eraser end of a pencil. Does one tube make it happen? It might be a bum tube.
3) unplug the amp, turn it on (this should discharge the capacitors). Unplug the tubes one at a time, spray the pins with something like Caig Deoxit, plug them back in. Could be spotty connections to the tubes.

The sockets might also want retensioning.
You might have some things going bad, but I bet it's one of the three.

Some great tips on that page. Goes back to 2001. I remember referring to this site a lot when I first started tube amp restoration and repair. So glad to see Andy left it on the net

Thanks to all especially Lane and Ken. I turned the volume knobs several times and so far no static. I need to learn more about amps especially tube amps.

Billy,
I had (have) the same problem with my Vibrolux reverb (1966). Unfortunately I think I am the first person to use a cover on it. I have sprayed the pots several times with Deoxit, but cannot get them completely clean. Just a couple are really problematic, but those have a "sweet spot" that is good for my ears.
Good luck,
Lefty

If any of the caps in the tone stacks are leaking DC voltage the pots will be very scratchy.
