the interviewer is a guitar player so a lot of interesting talk about guitars and guitar players. Merle, bless his soul, was a guitar god wannabe

I listened to this yesterday evening and thought the same thing. I found it so amusing that he thought him having to sing was an excuse for not being a more prominent guitar player. It's funny for me because I was debating with a co-worker whether his most memorable trait was his singing or songwriting.
I saw him perform last summer and remember that the most surprising part was him ripping a genuinely impressive guitar solo. It wasn't just impressive because of his age either...
What struck me most about this interview was just how timeless and relatable he came off as. He talked about things which happened 50 years ago in a way that makes perfect sense even today. We are truly lucky to have had an artist like him. |

I loved his comments about Junior Barnard. If you have heard his playing ( e.g. The Tiffany Transcriptions) then it makes perfect sense that Leo Fender would give Junior the first Telecaster to whomp on. |
