I am very happy with my GFI D-10 keyless 8P 7K-it was purchased on ebay. One of the very few D-10's I've seen on ebay. This is a pre ULTRA model. I'm impressed with the easy set
set up/take down, the light weight, no string breakage when using jagwire .0115.
I gig every week end, sometime two different locations in one day so it get a fair amount of traveling. The only problems I have had is the mica coming loose on the pedal bar
and the paint chips much easier than I feel it should. I would expect the paint to be more durable than it is.
I have no complaints about tone or playability and the other band members love
the way it sounds.
I'm happy.
Rich

Actually, we have no used GFI steels and out of over 500 sold by us in the last three years, only three have come back on trade , because of the buyers wanting doubles instead of single necks.
It seems as though GFI owners reaize they can't do any better than what they already have. They can do differently, but not necessarily better.
I'm quite shocked at the number of GFI guitars I've sold to not have hardly any traded back in. Most folks like them better a year later than they did the day they bought them. I think the GFI record for satisfied customers has to be a record in it's self.
This is something "Gene Fields Instrument's" can be very proud of.
No one guitar is perfect for everyone, but this brand sure seems to get awfully close.
And you guys know me, I wouldn't say if I didn't believe it.

I've been playing only 4 months. I started right out with the GFI S-10 Ultra after meeting Gene at a show. As I was just getting into this, as I heard more about other guitars I sometimes thought, "maybe I should have bought this one or that one instead". Bobbe is very right though. The more I play my GFI and fix things in my hands little by little, I'm realizing that the GFI is almost perfect and things I wondered about like maybe the strings would rattle less or the tone would maybe be better with something else (go ahead and laugh) I'm finding it's all me of course. I'm glad to say already that all that is improving with practice. Unless I get something used, when I am ready to take on the C6 neck, I'm thinking if I bought new, I'd buy another GFI, only a D10 next time. And probably most on topic for this thread, I'd think I'd keep the S10 for traveling lighter if I eventually get good enough for using it at gigs.

They come up on ebay pretty regularly. I suspect, as more and more of them are sold, you'll see more of them on the used market.

Hey, Bobbe, good to hear from you, too. I just bought a bunch of your tapes so I can see you some more And while some may disagree with what you say, I am certain there is nothing you say that you don't believe.

GFI's sound so good, no one wants to let theres go!! I have one used ecomomy model with 3&3. I would be happy to sell you a brand new one, then you could be happy with your GFI!! http://www.hereintown.net/~shobud75/stock.htm

all joking aside, they have a very good sound and are very sharp looking steel guitars.

jeff,
the price is right on these guitars, i believe bobbe is right about you will like the guitar the more you play it.
i put up a post for a used one a month ago and never got one reply.
and a note about the steeler that bought the non ultra model, thats an older guitar since the ultras have been out a long time and gene has been improving his guitar every six months.
i sold my new one because i ordered a new zum and as great as the zum guitar is i much preferred the gfi, so after trying out about 10 more guitars because tone is the most important thing period, i went back to the drawing board and bought a gfi and the second new one was better than the first.

because i buy and sell guitars i saw just about everything and everybody's different but im as picky as picky gets and my gfi isnt going anywhere, if anything i will get another one. if you cant find one at the price you want email me and i will help you out.
thanks

I think I might be the "steeler" that Randy mentioned. I like the GFI pre-Ultra a lot, but I don't think I'm going to keep it. Although it sounds GREAT, and weighs next to nothing, I really don't feel comfortable on D-10s. I play a Kline U-12. I'm probably gonna eBay the GFI in a few weeks, but I might consider a trade for a classic Shobud S-10/12.

GFI is the only light weight modern guitar that I can truly say I like. Good tone and well constructed.

I played one for about half an hour in St. Louis last year and was very favorably impressed with the pedal feel and tone.

Yes Ken, thank you, and I really do believe the things I say, this doesn't mean I'm always correct, but I feel I can back up anything I say by demonstrating what I believe to be true.
I sold GFI guitars three years before I started "Hyping" them. I wanted to know the guitar well and be sure it really was a great guitar before I started singing it's virtues. Just like the old Volkswagon Bug, they look the same now but have been gradually improving over the years. I've recently seen many wonderful professional name players switch to this fine, modern steel guitar. This guitar is exactly what this industry needs: A light, good sounding, no maintance, strong, factory and dealer supported steel guitar at the lowest price possible. Translated, VALUE!
All I can say is, "Thank you Gene Fields", You are filling a much needed nitch in the market.
Yes Ken Drost, just like you, I believe it. And also believe I can prove it, like you can also.
This does not mean that I don't like some other brands, this one (GFI) just fills the needs of so many players, at the fairest price possible with the least hassel imaginable.
