Is it pretty much safe to assume (there's that word again) that these new Class D amps are happy without a speaker load? Years ago I had a real nice solid state Yamaha guitar amp that I lent to a friend. He yanked the speaker lead out for some unknown reason and fried it. I have a 4 channel Class D Carvin power amp that will run all day without a load, or with a mixed load. Just wonder'in. I know they're fused, but what happens if I forgit to plug my speaker cab in some night? |

Hi Tim ,
Are Class D amps more sensitive to ohmage diferences than a tube amp ? |

It depends on how they are designed. The ICEpower amps I use seem to act the same if you use a 4ohm or 8ohm speaker.
Some companies design their own Class D stuff, and I have no idea how that would respond. I can only speak for the Milkman Class D stuff - but you should be fine using any class D with no load, unless the builder did something silly. _________________ Milkmansound.com |

Thanks Tim...
For gigging , I picked up a Fender Mustang V head .....Both speakers need to be hooked up to use it powered ....Fender also indicates using a speaker in each of the outputs of no lower than 8 ohms .....My 2 cabs are 4 ohms each and Idon't want to risk blowing the amp .....
I can however run the amp with no load without issue .... Thanks so much for the info .....Sincerely, Jim |
