i never intended to sell this one, but a slew of spring projects, including a new roof means some of my steels have to go.
this is a RARE 'byrd' - these exact copies of the early Ric frypans were handmade by Rod King in England in the early 90's. i have heard he only made about 15 due to the cost of manufacture. very few of these are in the states. folks this is as close as you will get to a frypan. the scale of this is 23.5, which means it seems to be a medium between the A22 & A25, dont know the reason for that. it is solid aluminum. the 'horseshoe' is the faux kind, not a true horseshoe magnet. i have had the opportunity since i've owned it to buy 2 original ric 7 string horseshoe pickups, but it sounded great as is so i left it alone.
this is in a completely different league than the JB type copies...no comparison.
original frypans are very hard to find, esp in 7-string configuration. this one will not disappoint - it killed my lust for an original in every way.
comes with the handmade repro case which is an added touch proving how far Mr. King went to capture every detail. this is a top quality piece in every way - you wont be disappointed. condition is EXC++
price is $1500 shipped -us.

Cool guitar Jerome. Looks like a cast aluminum instrument.
A fair price too IMO.

3/8 spacing at bridge
5/16 at the nut
thanks Todd - i feel the price is pretty fair - its hard to judge on something like this - i do know that the only other individual building these (guy in Australia...Cole / Coolage(?) man i'm getting bad at recall these days) they run around $3,000.
you know i own a T-8 of yours Todd and previous a S-8 so i know the love and labor it takes to pull off these kinds of repros - this one is dead on really with the exception it is solid vs hollow neck. _________________ '65 Sho-Bud D-10 Permanent • '54 Fender Dual-8 • Clinesmith T-8 • '38 Ric Bakelite • '92 Emmons D-10 Legrande II |
