Watching it on TV, the sound is deplorable! What a shame...

Some of the music (Penatonix, Darius Rucker, Martina McBride) was good, it just sounded like the put one mic in the back of the auditorium to pickup the stage.

The lineup:

Kelsea Ballerini
Dan + Shay
Mickey Guyton
Jewel
Charles Kelley
Martina McBride
David Nail
Jennifer Nettles
Pentatonix
LeAnn Rimes
Darius Rucker
Brian Setzer
Michael W. Smith,
Lindsey Stirling

Just a mere hint of genuine country artists, a lot of carpetbaggers, and a slick look that didn't resemble anything I ever knew as country - or Christmas for that matter…

My favorite part of the show was Jennifer Nettles legs on that opening number... I'm glad she got rid of her "partner" with the funny hat(s) in (whatever that group was)...JH in Va.

“CMA Country Christmas” is a production of the Country Music Association. Robert Deaton is the Executive Producer, Paul Miller is the Director, and David Wild is the writer.

God save us from these misguided individuals and those of a like mind. This event has nothing to do with country music except the title..

Aired again last night or Christmas eve... I wanted to give it a second chance...but I just couldn't make it all the way through.

Only saving grace was Brian Setzer. I popped back in a time or two just to see him. No, not country, but no phony either. You can always count on Brian to keep it twangy, greasy and real.

I'm always stupified when they have what are plainly "pop artists" or rock idols...appearing on a so-called "country" show. Whoa!

I never saw Kitty Wells on American Bandstand, or Ray Price on Soul Train. Laughing Laughing Laughing

What did you expect? This thread is like going to Kentucky Fried Chicken and complaining because they don't have hamburgers. Very Happy

You guys are right. They do advertise it as a country show, but after so many years of the same old new country, pop/rock acts, and what we already know is popular and being promoted on radio, etc... are we really surprised when we turn on the show and it's the same as last time? I'm on me same side as you. My regrets are that it was ever allowed to get to this point in the first place.

I hear all these presidential candidates talking about "taking our country back". If I thought they meant fixing country music, I'd certainly offer my support. Laughing

I knew what you meant Rick. I know you are in agreement. Excuse the dramatics....Some of us just hope against hope and refuse to give up. I guess we figure if we yell long enough and loud enough, some things will change.

You are correct. We should all know what to expect from any CMA sponsored event. We should know by now the emphasis is on the spectacle, with music secondary. We should not be surprised that the shows are laced with artists and songs from other than country.....nor that the most of the songs that are billed as country bear little resemblance.

Further, these shows are only representative of what the industry has promoted for the era. We should not expect to see Gene Watson, Merle Haggard, or maybe not even the rare Strait and Jackson appearance anymore.

I'm vented now. Sorry for the rant. I'm just sad about the entire state and felt like exercising my right to say so.

Sorry for getting a bit off topic here, but a bit of history - Through all of his storied career, Gene Watson has only ever done 1 Christmas song, never a full album. Too bad!! I'm old enough to remember when most country artists (not one-hit wonders) did a Christmas album (or 2 or more) as well as a Gospel album in their careers.

For those who care, that song was Pretty Paper, 2006 compilation cd entitled "Still Believing In Christmas." Lloyd Green on steel on this track.

Graham,
I am a big fan of Gene Watson and he might not have a Christmas album but he does have a very fine gospel album. His two sisters are even on it with him.

Think you are talking about this 1997 Step One Records release featuring Buddy Emmons on steel.

It was re-released twice - in 2004 on Intersound Records and in 2006 on Gusto Records.

I have the original '97 cd plus I also have 30 lp's of Gene's. IMO, the best country singer NOT in the Hall of Fame.
