| Have you heard TB's CD "In Time"? Wow!! I love it. What great tone and tasteful playing. Steve Wariner plays some super fine guitar as well. Two thumbs up. If I had more than two I'd put those up, too. |

No question,one of the best ever.
the Hank Williams medley and the Hawaii'an Wedding song are nonpareil.
His reworking of Arrowhead is killer.
Just a darn fine album all 'round |

I ordered Pacific Steel Company from b0b's store. I don't know what's on it yet but both Desert Rose Band and the Flying Burrito Brothers steel players sounds like a trifecta to me!

I agree. Tom's version of Hawaiian Wedding Song on this CD is the prettiest version I've ever heard.
His daughter, Tracie, told me he recorded it on a 1934 Rickenbacher bakelite. Both the sound/tone and the playing are fabulous.

That song they're working on in the video "Forever Loving You" is my favorite on the album. I also have Steve's album that he plays it on. I make a stab at playing it, but it doesn't sound much like Tom and Steve.

Yes it's a beautiful song. Even off the video. What I like about the clip is we hear Steve's playing in the room he's tracking in, his flubs and retakes, and it gives me insight to what the raw sound is compared to the recorded finished tracks, mixed etc. Only an insider could've taken the video, perhaps it was Todd or Tom's family. Was nice of Todd to share, assuming we're talking about the same video. Wish there was footage of Tom's takes.

I thought this picture being ID'd as 1933 was in error. Maybe more like 1950. So I followed the link and it is listed on the Rickenbacker website as a 1933 catalog!
This seems incorrect to me. The B-6 and D-16 models pictured are postwar construction with the T-logos, and suspended tailpieces

| I recently discovered that video. Tom Brumley delivered tremendous emotion with understated grace. I like Tom and Steve's interaction, their relaxed demeanor, humility, and sheer joy working together. I'm grateful to Todd for sharing that. It's brilliant! |

Re "Forever Loving You"- Noel Anstead (Anapeg guitars) and I shared a love for this song so I learned it- played it for Jay Dee- and then he learned it as well and now plays it at the shows  - he does a fantastic job! |

I learned it too Jim soon after I got Tom's album then didn't play it for a couple of years. I tried it a few days ago and I had forgotten the walk-down in the chorus. So, more practice. I like Steve Wariner's acoustic guitar version on his CD too. I also attempt to play it on guitar, here's a link to a low quality video of my weak attempt at it.

Jim, that's great to know! Hearing the video from that studio session inspired me to get back to playing steel. And it was locked away for a long time. I just got the CD from Rolene yesterday. Liner notes say Tom played Anapeg and Mullen 11-string pedal steel and 1934 Rickenbacker 7-string lap steel. I would think re-issue Fender Bassman amps with 15" JBLs contributed to his tone.
The material on this CD is incredibly moving. |

| I recall hearing Tom play it at the Dallas show in a room and proclaimed to him "That's not the way you play it!" and he said- "Oh really- just how is it done?" We were friends and we did it jokingly- I had learned it in D centered on the 10th fret and he did it primarily on the 5th fret . |

A short back story:
A student of mine owned Brumley's SD-11 Mullen used on "In Time," and was thinking of selling it. I borrowed it for a weekend, thinking I might buy it. Tom's beautiful tone was still in that steel big time, I was playing some of his songs from the album, and doing some decent emulations of Tom. I didn't buy it because I realistically knew I'd miss my 12th string too much to ever be completely happy. All the left knee levers had that ergonomic Sho-Bud slant to them, very custom thing done by Mullen folks, I'm told they swore never again, too.

| Was that a solid red lacquer SD-11 Mullen? If so I was the person who bought that guitar from Tom when he lived in Branson. I sent a picture of the guitar to Mullen and they posted it in Custom Guitars. If I remember it was a 1992. Great sounding guitar, but I could never get use to the 11 strings vs. my other 10 string guitars. My cousin bought Tom's black lacquer SD-11 Mullen at the same time, and he still has it. |

in 1999 on my way to Nashville from Minnesota , me and buddy of mine stopped in Branson for a couple days, we went to see Tom Brumley show, after the show I went to Tom, and bought "In Time" CD from him, he asked me where was I from, and i said Europe, he asked me to wait until he gets done with his fans, after he was done we had some coffee and talked about steel guitars... awesome person, and a gentleman, one of my favorite memories I will never forget, having a coffee with Tom Brumley in Branson...

I was playing for a fellow on an Opry type show. He made a trip to Branson and saw Tom Brumley playing. After the show, he approached Tom, was going to buy a CD for me. He told Tom to recommend one of his CDs, but make sure the music was pretty simple, because I wasn't very good  . Tom sent him home with In Time. Good CD. |

Hi guys, just loved hearing all your super stories...Please keep it up..we want to keep his memory alive...He was such a fantastic person so kind and respectful to everyone he met..also being the best steel guitarist in the world (I think) such touch and tone!!!I'm glad everyone got his beautiful album "In Time". Please keep up the good words about him...Love you all and sure do miss sweet Tom...can't believe it has been seven years next month...
