Some of you will remember Mike Shefrin from New York, an incredibly talented jazz guitarist who made amazingly fast progress on jazz steel -- and then gave it up! Now I think he plays exclusively flamenco guitar (having also given up jazz guitar! WTF?)

Anyway, here is a YouTube of some of his guitar playing, along with well-known New York jazz guitarist Joe Cohn. Mike plays the head and 1st solo; Joe's solo comes after the piano solo.

Dig!

Terrific bebop playing and I love all the sly quotes interspersed in there. Quite a thing to to throw those in there at that tempo off the top of one's head.

Good stuff Jim. I was fortunate to get Mike's CD before he disappeared from here. It gets a lot of play. Miss having him around.

What a shame to lose a forumite with that Bebop knowledge.

Would have had so many questions.

Mike Shefrin is the real deal. Major talent. He figured out steel guitar faster than anyone I ever saw. He was playing jazz on E9th. Once he figured out what the machine was doing he was off to the races. Great guitar player.
