I just came across this swanky looking lap steel on eBay:

http://m.ebay.com/itm/VERY-RARE-1940s-Kahlmen-Lap-Steel-Guitar-MOP-Yellow-W-Sparkle-Inlay-Binding-/331729216214?nav=SEARCH

I have no stake in this item, just interested in learning more about the maker. Seems to be scant information out on the interwebs on Kahlmen, looks like Matt Umanov had an amazingly ornate model for sale at some point: http://umanovguitars.net/store/details.asp?prodid=4621&cat=660&path=600,660. Does anyone on the forum have any experience playing them or happen to know something of their history?

Much thanks in advance, and happy holidays all!

Best,

Julian
