Im getting ready to ship a steel to canada and im looking for the best way as the buyer seems to be very concerned and I want it to get there safe. I have had terrible experiences with UPS but mostly with amps or something more fragile. Ive had good luck with fed ex but I see post where others have not so I think they all have problems. I would ship by grey hound but they only insure up to $250 He mentioned the mail but it is more expensive. I just havent heard of many steels being damaged by shipping, I would appreciate some input

Here is the way steels have arrived in good shape when I have bought them long distance. Pack the steel in its case, stuffing something in there so the legs don't rattle against anything, etc. Get some styrofoam sheets and cut them to cover the case all around, but leaving a hole to grip the handle. Securely tape corrugated cardboard all around the styrofoam, again leaving a hole to grip the handle. The case protects the guitar, the styrofoam and cardboard protect the case, and the handle makes it easy to carry and less likely to be dropped. UPS or FedEx, you take your chances. I did discover that Fed Ex ground is much cheaper than express, and the handling seems to be about the same.

Jeff,
If you can find an liquid foam system in your area (at a local packaging store that sell boxes and ships goods for people) it is almost as safe as you can ship, if used correctly. I shipped mine to Mullen and back in the same box and foam, and it worked great. I sell packaging for a living and alot of my customers especially guitars makers use this system for fragile items.
Good Luck
Thanks, Terry
