I just wanted to capture the feel I'm going for and be able to hear how the new changes fit under the melody. I think it works pretty nicely. This is very short, just AABA.

Making great progress, lining up the musicians to begin tracking in January.

Can you believe all the beautiful tunes Thelonious Monk composed? Just astounding.

By the way, I have been thinking about this tune a lot and I have some great ideas of how to make my version stronger.

I re-recorded the steel guitar parts, overdubbing some other harmonies. This gets me a little closer to the vibe I'm going for. Monk meets Herb Alpert/Burt Bacharach maybe?

Really nice, Mike. You worked up and successfully translated a very challenging song.
Love the Hawaiian flavor amidst the "dissonancs".

Oooo... very nice. Yes, this one could go on, like a suite, or a symphony. Monk on the islands.

Always love it Mike. A different angle.

Thelonius is so unique. The way he approached melody like abstract painting and dissonance like his primary colours.

That part never goes away for me, for better or worse. I like to think for better.
