Spill the beans boya and girls !!....How many of you have a newer 12 string Excel Superb ? .....Like a fool, I sold my Excel to try other steels ...I've found a couple that i like , but none of them did nearly as much as my Superb , and did it as well, all while sounding SUPERB ....It's the one that got away , and I've had quite a few steels in my short time of playing .... Tell ebout your steel , and send along some pic's if you can ...The last one I had I got from Scotty's ...I'm assuming that he's still the man to go to for an Excel ? ......Thanks in advance !!....Jim

i'd be interested to play a new one (never going to happen in the UK). I've got a 2004 one, like your old one James. I'd like to see the new changer, it takes a while for me to re string my excel and i still have to use special 3rd strings or they break... went to see BJ Cole as his place and he told me his Kline was quicker than a conventional machine head to re string. very important on a gig.
Love my Excel though. Thinking of selling my Sho~Bud and Fender to buy a second one!

Chris,
THe new Excels have a better setup than the old one ..... Rick K. bought my old one and just sold it because he has a new one now .... He claims that the new changer setup and all is much better than the old one ......I have a Kline and really like it ....GREAT sounding steel , but I like the Excel more because there is so muhc more you can do with a copedant , and change things around much easier ...Plus you can get the longer scale length on the Excel and have nice , tight , lower strings that have good punch to them ....better than anything out there ....Jim

I played one at the Dallas show and was impressed with the mechanics and build quality. It was a smooth machine. I figure its time to go keyless.

Wish I could have gone to Dallas just to play one of the newer ones.

2 weeks ago I got my s12 e9/c6 with the gearshift. I love my d10, but I wanted a "back up". I wanted something smaller, lighter, and different for fun. It's a great guitar. Mitsuo is great, and I got EXACTLY what I asked for. This list of "negatives" (in order of difficulty) is all about me adjusting to the guitar, and NOT the guitar, but I will adapt someday:
1. 12 string is confusing - it takes me too long to find my grips
2. The string spacing is slightly tighter-I have to be more careful
3. The rkl and rkr lever travel is longer, and I can't really adjust it because of the gearshift e9/c6 change lever changes the strings rkr and rkl operate on.
4. The pedal spacing is slightly wider, ok though
5. It actually takes me longer to switch from e9 to c6 - but I hardly ever have to do that on the fly anyway

Man it's small and light and stays in tune forever. It was tuned at the factory...

The Excel guitars that are keyed also are excellent.
