Hi there. I plan on ordering a vertical knee lever kit this week but have a question on installation.
Would it be wise to pre-drill the screw holes into the guitar body? Or can I just screw them in from the beginning? I don't want to crack the body.

Jeff, I would pre-drill the holes. Put some soap in the threads and then tighten screws. Be careful not to drill too deep or the drill bit will come out the top of the guitar. (put tape on the drill bit so you know when to stop). I would ask Mullen if they can give you the location to mount the lever. I did mine by looking at pictues, but it wasn't in the right position, so I had to re-drill.
If you plan to use the vertical to lower the 5th string, you might want to order as second rod, kotter pin , spacer and nylon nut. You can attach the second rod to the same bell crank and use it to tune the split note. This way you can use the lever to get a 1/2 tone raise that you can tune. |

I put an MSA pull collar on the drill bit to stop the bit from going too deep, since I don't own a drill press. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

They'd work equally well. But as my Emmons was stolen 25 years ago, I'm short on Emmons parts. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

I was under the impression that Mullens were pre-drilled for the vertical lever?! _________________ A couple D-10s,some vintage guitars & amps, & lotsa junk in the gig bag. |

The cross-shafts, yes. The holes to mount the lever brackets, notsomuch. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
