I bought one of the inexpensive Rondo lap steels that come with an arched Gibson style bridge that makes it extremely difficult to play. I was planning on machining a piece of steel rod to sit on the bridge studs when I saw a Gretsch bridge on eBay for about $8.95. The Gretsch is 3/8" high, so I cobbled together a platform for it out of some 1/4" maple I had on hand. The result is a huge improvements. I don't have to press down on the bar to get clear sounds. While it works fine, I think I'm going to remake the platform using some 1/4" steel or aluminum to make a more stable base for the little Gretsch bridge.
