Topic: Update -- my Custom Gig Bag |

I just ordered a custom gig bag for my Fender Triple 8 Custom, as I have become tired of toting around a road case for it. I ordered from a company in California called Studio Slips, who primarily make amp covers and things like that, but also make custom briefcase style gig bags for mixers and things like that. They are very affordable and easy to work with. The bag will have a shoulder strap and webbed handle, as well as a full length pocket for the legs. The material is 1000 Denier Nylon.

OK, I received my bag today from Studio Slips. It's a very nice bag and it suits my purposes very well. See, I'm tired of dragging my steel around in a monstrous road case and I thought it was time to take the step of having something super simple made for NYC gigs. Would I take this gig bag cross-country? I doubt it, but for what it is, it was worth the investment of $160.
There is not a lot of padding, only about 1", but with me carrying the guitar around I don't feel nervous about this. The Triple 8 Custom is pretty heavy, so only time will tell how the shoulder strap holds up.

| you could always have a cover similarly made for the road case. won't help the weight but, it will help carrying it. |

Looks nice Mike, when your shoulder gets tired you can still carry it by the handle. Just don't check it at the airline.
BTW Thats a tough looking roadie you got there.

My road case is strictly for the road. It has wheels and plenty of strong handles, but it's heavy and large--probably 30 lbs alone and about 48" long.
No, I wouldn't dare check this, but I may be able to get away with carrying it on.

Digging up an old topic....but maybe Mike will see this.
Mike, I just found a Custom 8 and it's on it's way here. Very excited! I'm curious how this bag worked out for you, long-term, and if you'd do it again. Also curious if Studio Slips would still have the template.

She may still have the template. I know Lynn was talking with her about it, but he decided on a hard case. I used 1 1/2" rigid foam to protect the steel, because there isn't much protection without it. But from car to stage was nice and easy to just put it on my shoulder.
I see that two posters in this thread have since passed away: Lynn and Adriel.
