I have a Pro 1 3X4 when I got It the fret board had been changed and was not a Sho-Bud fret board I found after tuning it was off when the bar was over the fret. I purchased a Sho-Bud board and replaced it. It measures 18 5/8 long, the metal neck on the guitar measures right at 20 inches. After tuning It is still off about 1/8th of an inch. I know there are 2 different lengths of Fret boards available but haven`t been able to find the specs on this model. The serial number is 13692. I think it is 1978-1979.I would appreciate any help I can get. Other than that the guitar is great.
Thank`s

How long is the string from TDC of the roller nut to TDC of the changer finger? THAT is the only measurement that matters.
To verify accurate position, find the point EXACTLY halfway along the string. The 12th fret must be EXACTLY under this point.
Remember that, from the playing position, the height of the string from the neck will cause a significant parallax error. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

ShoBuds use a 24" scale. If you get the correct fretboard and joy n t with the twelfth fret exactly halfway between top dead center of the roller nut and the changer it should work fine. |

I have, somewhere, a plastic (vinyl?) Sho-Bud recreation fretboard which I'm not using. I can send it along to you for whatever it was I paid. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

Thanks for your input. I will check this out and see. If I determine I need the fret board you have I will let you know.
Thanks

Sometimes new fretboards are a little bit too long from the left end to the first fret. You need to find your center point where the 12th fret will be located and trim a little bit from the left end of the new fretboard to make it fit. |

I seem to recall Coop telling me that some Shobud boards were known to be off from the git-go, and that he had corrected ones made. RIP John! _________________ Dr. Z Surgical Steel amp, amazing!

You all were right on. I checked all measurement as was suggested and found the new fret board was approx. 1/8 of an inch long. I corrected it. Now I`m going to throw something else out. I would like to change the pickup in it witch I think is original, when you pick the 3rd and 4th strings it has a piercing sound. I would like to have a more subtle tone. I`m also playing a Sho-Bud The Professional and would like a similar Tone to it. One other thing I would like to put all new springs on the changer as it looks like someone has changed some of them. It just needs some TLC. Thanks again for your help.

Once Jerry gets well, I'd get a Truetone from Jerry Wallace (a new one would be wound to sound how you want it).
Or either get a used Truetone on the forum or perhaps a 705. For a Bud, those are my favorite 2 pickups. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

My favorite pup for a Shobud is a Shobud. Love the sound. You might talk to Jerry when he feels better. He may be able to rewind your original to specs you prefer. _________________ Dr. Z Surgical Steel amp, amazing!

You might want to play with the pickup height as well.. Maybe drop it a bit. A little adjustment can make a lot of difference.. |

What is the difference between the 705 and 710. which would be best choice for sho-Bud Pro-1. I see they are still available.

I might be wrong, but you said you have a metal neck on that bud. I thought only the PRO 3's had metal. You got the right info, by using the 12th fret as your mid point. _________________ Sho-Bud LDG, Martin D28, Ome trilogy 5 string banjo, Ibanez 4-string bass, dobro, fiddle, and a tubal cain. They sound different, and the 705 has blade magnets while the 710 has two rows of individual rod magnets. I don't think the 710 has the center tap wires. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
