If you are talking about the song, "The Number", on the "24 karat Heartache" album, Allmusic lists Michael Douchette as the only steel guitar player. Maybe he will chime in.

Thanks, Billy. Nice to hear it again.

Jim Vest had always played on Vern's stuff. Vern wanted to do an album of all his hits, but played acoustically. Jim doesn't play dobro, (I really don't, either) and he recommended me to Vern for the project. I used my old MatchBro box, and learned all Jim's licks faithfully. Vern was so impressed by that that he used me from then on. Whatever happened to that project, I have no idea. I've never heard a single cut of it anywhere.
