Does anyone know the gauge, thickness of the aluminum used in the manufacture of the ETS guitar? Thank you! |

Brian, I discussed this with Bud just before he died.
It is about .2500 (1/4 ". but the aluminum is a custom
grade that Bud and the MFG. decided on. That would be a
critical factor in making a body in all aluminum. Hope this helps,

This may not help.. but there are some similarities between the ETS and Carpsteel that seem intentional from a design standpoint.
My Carp measures 3/16" with a cheap plastic caliper, but I'll bet it's a guage somewhere around that and not exactly measured in sixteenths.
Forumite Bob Carlucci has bought an ETS; I'll bet he would measure that for you. |

Be sure to mount any pu's if changing on the ETS with double-sided tape and no screws into the aluminum. It'll kill any decent tone. My ex-uncle Bobby Bowman tried it and changed it back. Mounting to the aluminum body with db-sided tape won't change the tone. I played two ETS's for while and yes the aluminum seemed to hold tune, as good or better than some wood bodies. I added a little more lows and less highs on mine. Good sound thru a Session 500/DD3. |
