What's even worse is that I read he lost everything in a fire and had tried to save the steel guitar with the gig bag burning. Tragic. Funds need to be raised for Freddie. _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |

Really messed up. Fortunately I see that he does have a double neck National (his game axe is a single) -- he is not empty handed. But wow. |

Yes, there is a National double neck around he can use. I'll be loaning him a white plastic bar, I think his was lost. I believe a benefit will be planned, will check back here to make sure details are posted & if not I'll post them myself. |

Damn! This is bad news. Freddie needs the support of the community. He's an icon of the instrument and a nice guy. _________________ Steel Guitar Books! Website: www.volkmediabooks.com |

Ugh, I can't stand thieves. Given that this could have ended far more tragically, I suppose there's much to be grateful for. This could have happened to any of us. Sending Freddie prayers. |

This is truly terrible news.
I know Freddie, but haven't seen or spoken to him in quite awhile. I drove by his house yesterday and sure enough, it's burned out. Really depressing.
People here on the forum who know his music are aware of what a unique giant he is on lap steel, but some may not be aware of just what a modest and unassuming person he is. To have this happen at this point in his life is just devastating.
I'm hoping he has some local friends to stay with and a way to get back on his feet and start to rebuild.
The fact that someone would take that National guitar which I assume was the same primary axe he has used for so many years and was so much a part of him is just beyond sad.
I only have his old land line phone number, so no way of getting in touch directly, but sure hope someone who is in touch will post updates here on how he's doing and information on any benefits that are being put together or ways that local supporters can help him in his time of need.
First Bobby Black gets injured in a car crash, then this.
A tough patch for two of the real princes of the SF Bay Area steel community. |

WTF
This is really upsetting. He may have a second axe but we all know that losing the one that you use as your primary is painful.
I agree - thieves are disgusting.
Had my MSA superslide stolen at an airport. I think they thought it was a keyboard. Been harassing MSA ever since as the cost of replacing always conflicts with family needs.
What Freddie might need is a place to crash. Can't sleep on his Lap Steel Guitar. _________________ Stefan
