It will also bring fresh ideas to your playing by listening to his approach of classic steel guitar songs.
Even legendary songs like Nightlife.
Yes I said it he does a blues based version of it but don't think he can only play that genre. He even has some Hawaiian classic styles on this record.
Enjoy. _________________ Stefan

Thanks for the heads up, Stefan. Freddie is a monster player. He can produce both the wildest and the most sensitive music, and never seems to run out of energy or ideas. I suspect he is not actually from this planet... _________________ Peter

My pleasure. I am truly enjoying his albums. I have to admit I was on the fence at his earlier work but I appreciate his style and approach.
No you can't ask him to play chords and voicings like crazy etc. cause he doesn't believe there is a need to on the instrument. I vehemently disagree however I still can appreciate an alternate perspective.
And truth, passion and love for our Lap Steel Guitar instrument is undeniable. So needless to say check out his behind the scenes interview I saw a few years ago. He breaks down his tuning and approach. Should be somewhere on YouTube. _________________ Stefan

I'm coming to like that recording. He's got a different way of approaching things. I figure he hears intonation different than many.
When I first got that recording several years ago it struck me that his playing was a little out of tune at times, and maybe it is, but I get it now.
Love "Sidewinder". Also his take on "Funkifize". |

Yes, Freddie has a rather unorthodox approach to the instrument and that's what I love about his playing.
I've seen him play live a few times, and other times I find out after the fact that he is playing out somewhere and I curse myself for missing it.
After growing up in Chicago and living there until around age 30, he came out here to California around 1970 where he has lived in the Bay Area for about the past 45 years. We are honored to have him as part of the Northern California community of steel players.
And he appreciates steel guitar of all kinds - several years ago I was at a show in Berkeley where Bobby Black was playing and Freddie was part of the audience. _________________ Mark |

Mark,
I've had the good fortune to see him a couple times in SF - he is a super cool cat. Glad folks are digging his music.

I only wish someone would bring him on a tour of the East Coast!
The video where he breaks down his tuning and approach...is that the one where he's sitting in the back room at Subway Guitars? |

No I've seen another video where he is at his home or some old house and he talks about his tuning and how he started playing and the limitations he found on the Lap Steel Guitar.
Which actually are his playing limitations not the instrument. _________________ Stefan

Per various posts to his Facebook page:
https://www.facebook.com/freddie.roulette
Freddie Roulette's house caught on fire yesterday morning.. He lost everything including his Vintage lap steel given to him by David Lindley, to replace the one that he used with Earl Hooker, his stomp boxes, one that was made for him exclusively by Daphne Blue Band member, all his plugs, mike, his Amp Roland Jazz Chorus 120, clothes and everything personal, phone numbers, contacts..
We are looking into doing a Benefit for Freddie..
This National lap steel guitar, that belongs to Bay Area based musician Freddie Roulette, was stolen from his yard in the East Bay yesterday. He had pulled it out of his house, with the case aflame, and set it down in his yard while he went back to check on pets and roommates. When he returned, the guitar had been stolen.
