I really wasn't using my "C" pedal for much, since I have the E to F# on a lever, so I changed it to a B lower. I like it! Should have done it years ago: Somebody tell Jeff Newman, so he'll get off my case.

Bob...the way you've got everything set up looks really interesting! Have you ever considered also raising your string 8 to F# with your LKV? It might make more tension than you like, but then again you might like it. In my case, I hardly ever used the conventional pedal 3 until I added that raise. Now it's a major part of my E9 bag. Great for Celtic sounds! I think PF uses it also if my memory is correct. |

Yes, I had it there (middle E to F# on LKV) for a few years at Paul's suggestion. I liked it, but I like the direct feel of having just one change more. To me, it's all about comfort.

b0b,
Far be it from me to tell you how to play, I am positive you play more than I ever could.
That said, I would like for you to try the following and see if you like it as much as I do.
The band or singer is holding a dominant chord. Lets say key of G.
Go to the 8th fret and pick strins 3, 4 and 5. As the strings sustain, engage and release the A pedal.
While the strings still sustain, engage the B to Bb change and release.
To my knowledge there is No better way to get that beautiful PSG embelishmet while a dominant chord is being held.
At least to my ears.
May Jesus richly bless you always,
carl

Yes, Carl, that note at the IV fret position is very useful. It's especially nice to be able to bounce on the pedal for a little trill in that position.
It's also very useful in the F lever position: release A for the 7th, then lower the B string for the 6th.

I'm more interested in the notion that you don't find the "C" pedal especially useful. Neither do I, and recently reconfigured it for the Franklin drop, which works well situated next to the "B" pedal, and got rid of the C change completely.
I wonder if it's falling out of use with other players? |

I've been using the E to F# on LKV for 25 years. I don't recommend it to anyone, though. It occupies a knee position that could be put to better use. But since I am used to it, the "C" pedal was redundant.
I endorse the standard tuning that puts "C" on the floor and "X" on LKV. I believe that it's technically better than what I'm using. I just don't have the will to change reflex actions that are 25 years old.
